Jeffery Zygmunt

Jeffrey Zygmunt was born and raised in Minnesota, and studied at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. After graduating from AAU, he received a sculpting assistance position working on public monuments. In 2008 he studied at the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy where he expanded his knowledge of sculpture and visited all the famous museums available to him, greatly influencing his work. During this time, Jeffrey developed a new understanding of the human body. Starting with a cold mass of clay, he recreates the spirit and expression of the human form. The collection featured is from the “Body of Language” series, done in a collaboration with Post Ballet, a contemporary dance company in San Francisco.

artist statement

As I work, I ponder the possible and the impossible; continually challenging myself and pushing the limits of my mind to create something that is authentic. Authenticity is at the heart of my being. My work has power when I open myself up and focus on what inspires me and the strongest way to convey that to the viewer. Only through being present to myself and the subject matter in front of me can I can create timeless art. There are many ways to sculpt, paint or draw and through the exploration of these different media I gain access to creating a piece that is fresh and alive. I use my sculpture to sharing a message with the viewer; whether it be as simple as an emotion or as bold as the experience of the current human condition, the message I create will last forever.
